68 pc of the elected candidates have criminal background

Patna, Nov 11 (UNI) Despite all efforts of the Election Commission to check the entry of criminals in the electoral politics, over 68 per cent of the elected candidates have a criminal background and their strength increased this year by over 10 per cent in Bihar assembly.
According to the available data, 58 per cent of the candidates elected in the 2015 assembly election had criminal cases against them.
A perusal of the data revealed that of the 241 winning candidates in the current Assembly election 163 had declared criminal cases against them which constitute 68 per cent of the candidates while out of 243 MLAs analysed during 2015 Bihar Assembly election 142 had criminal cases against them.
The data further revealed that 123 candidates that are 51 per cent of the victorious candidates have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and crimes against women.
According to the available information 19 winning candidates were facing cases related to murder, 31 had cases of attempt to murder while 8 had cases related to crimes against women.
The data further stated that AIMIM was at the top in terms of candidates with declared criminal cases against them in their affidavits as it's all five candidates were facing criminal cases.
AIMIM is followed by Congress as 84 per cent that is 16 out of 19 of its victorious candidates had criminal charges. Similarly, 83 per cent of the winning candidates of CPI(ML) that is 10 out of 12 winning candidates had criminal cases lodged against them.
With 73 per cent of the candidates that is 54 out of 74 winning candidates having criminal charges against them, RJD remained the second largest party with winning candidates having criminal cases lodged against them.
BJP which contested the election against "Jungle Raj" interestingly had 64 per cent of its winning candidates facing criminal cases as 47 out of 73 candidates declared victorious had criminal cases against them. It's a major ally, the Janata Dal ( U) which too earned it's glory for sushasan and for providing better law and order during its regime had 47 per cent MLAs with criminal cases. Out of 43 winning candidates from JD(U), 20 had criminal cases against them.
In terms of candidates with serious criminal charges hundred per cent of the winning candidates, AIMIM had criminal cases of serious offence against them. It is followed by CPI(ML) with 67 per cent as it's 8 out of 12 winning candidates had criminal cases.
Similarly, Congress had 58 per cent that 11 out of 19 winning candidates with serious criminal cases followed by RJD with 60 per cent as it's 44 out of 74 winning candidates had criminal cases of serious nature, BJP with 48 per cent that is 35 out of 73 winning candidates and JD(U) with 26 per cent that is its 11 victorious candidates out of 43 had serious criminal offences against them.
