Siddipet: Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Wednesday called upon the TRS workers not to lose heart in the wake of Dubbak by-poll loss.
The Minister, who paid tributes to party worker Kothinti Swamy (30), who committed suicide, appealed to TRS cadre to maintain calm. Depressed by the party’s defeat in Dubbak by-election on Tuesday, Swamy hanged himself in the early hours of Wednesday on the outskirts of Konaipally village of Doulthabad mandal, which falls under Dubbak Assembly constituency. Swamy, who went missing from his house on Tuesday night, was found hanging on a tree on Wednesday morning.
Harish Rao, accompanied by Medak MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, Forest Development Corporation Chairman Vanteru Prathapa Reddy and others attended the final rites of Swamy. The leaders carried the body to the burial ground. The Minister handed over Rs 2 lakhs cash to the bereaved family following directions from TRS President and Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao.
Assuring all support to Swamy from the party, Harish Rao comforted the family members. Pointing out that winning and losing in elections is part of politics, he appealed to party workers and leaders not to take any hasty decisions that would place their families in problems. “The party will stand by its workers irrespective of poll outcomes. Swamy’s decision has left the party leadership in shock,” he told the family members.
Swamy’s children, the Minister said, will be admitted in residential schools, and the family would get support on all fronts. “We have come to be with the family in their hour of grief following directions the TRS president, who sent his condolences.” “The party cadre must learn to accept defeat,” he said, adding that the party has tasted many victories and defeats during its 20 year history.
