AMBALA: On the complaint of a medical officer posted at the community health centre (CHC), Shahzadpur, the Ambala police on Wednesday booked ex-sarpanch of Shahzadpur Majra village under charges of threatening, assaulting and obstructing the public servant while on-duty.
Dr Anu Meha, a medical officer posted at CHC Shahzadpur in Naraingarh block of Ambala district lodged the police complaint against Satish Kumar, ex-sarpanch of Shahzadpur Majra, and others.
On her complaint, the police booked accused Satish and others under Section 34 (common intention), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duty), 189 (threat of injury to public servant), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant) and 353 (assault or criminal force) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Shahzadpur police station on Wednesday.
In her police complaint, Dr Anu stated, “At about 8.30 pm, I was on night duty on Tuesday. A patient namely Varun Goyal of Shahzadpur came with assault injuries. The patient was given the due treatment and MLR (medico-legal report) was done as per injury. A relative of patient Satish Kumar, ex-sarpanch of Shahzadpur Majra village came and started harassing me and forced me to change the nature of injury and kind of weapon to sharp. He threatened me that he can injure me and my family if I do not listen to them and also used abusive language and did melee with me. During my duty, they have also put political pressure on me, so a strict action should be taken against them.”
Shahzadpur police station house officer (SHO) SI Chander Bhan said, “Varun received blunt injuries in a fight with someone. Ex-sarpanch Satish Kumar attempted to force on-duty Dr Anu Meha to change the injury nature and type of weapon in the MLR. So she gave a complaint and we have registered a case against Satish and others. As per the preliminary investigation, Satish has earlier indulged in putting such pressure on the doctors and he even protested in past with his supporters for the same. We are investigating the matter and his arrest is pending.”
To a query, SHO Chander said, “We have not received any complaint from Satish's relative Varun about his injuries. The MLR written by the doctor is unchanged and if they had any doubt then they should have opted for a medical again but putting a medical officer under pressure to change the report is illegal.”
