MUMBAI: A 28-year-old Mira Road resident was booked for allegedly pronouncing 'triple talaq' to his wife over WhatsApp. No arrest has been made yet.
The 25-year-old complainant approached the Naya Nagar police, with the 'triple talaq' text message. The couple, who have a five-year-old daughter, have been living in their respective paternal homes in Mira Road due to marital disagreements.
In her complaint, the woman said her husband sent her the message after she refused to meet him. The couple got married in August 2014. They began fighting and the woman moved to her parents home with their child. She said they would meet in lodges to clear their differences. The meetings had stopped due to the lockdown. When the rules were relaxed, her husband insisted they meet again. When she refused, he sent her the triple talaq message. A case has been filed against him under the IPC and Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.
