GURUGRAM: In an effort to curb the ongoing spike in Covid-19 cases in Gurugram, the district administration on Tuesday increased the number of containment zones to 141. This is the highest number of containment zones in the city so far. Officials said that a total of 102 new containment zones were added and 29 have been removed from the previous list.
Gurugram block has a total of 134 containment zones, Sohna block has four and Pataudi block has three. “We are hopeful of bringing back the plateau in the coming week and making these containment zones is a step in that direction. Moreover, these are micro containment zones like households and are not large areas,” said deputy commissioner Amit Khatri.
Among other restrictions, no festive events are allowed in the containment zones.
The number of active cases in city has risen to 5,567 and the case tally stands at 36,153.
“The maximum number of cases is being reported from Tigra, Badshapur, Sukhrali, Patel Nagar and Palra village areas. That’s why these areas have a maximum number of containment zones. The surge in cases is mostly because of the festive season since people are stepping out and are not taking social distancing seriously or wearing face masks,” said Dr MP Singh, nodal officer of containment zones, district health department.
Haryana chief secretary Vijai Vardhan on Tuesday convened a meeting with the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police to increase testing, expedite challan drives, and provide pulse oximeter with Covid kit to patients in home isolation.
