A group of persons, led by BJP leader Vineetpal Singh Monga, staged a protest against the Municipal Corporation at its Zone D office today. He blamed the civic body for failing to control the stray dog menace in the city.

Monga said there was an acute problem of stray dog attacks in different localities and wards in the city and other parts of the district. He alleged that the stray dog bite cases were increasing in the city. These dogs had bitten children, aged people, women and passersby and injured them, he said.

He demanded from Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu and MC Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal to get the stray dog shelters constructed at the earliest in the city as well as outside the city.

Recenty, a group of stray dogs had badly injured an eight-year-old child at Tajganj Mohalla of the city. The issue related to stray dog menace was earlier raised many times, but the civic body has not taken any concrete measures to stop such incidents.

Meanwhile, sources said the MC’s stray dog sterilisation project was also going on at a slow pace.
