100 cases solved with arrest of 7 robbers in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: The Ludhiana police claimed to have cracked 100 snatching and robbery incidents with the arrest of seven notorious snatchers, infamous with the name of donkey gang. The accused used to rob people by threatening them with pistols and sharp- edged weapons. The donkey gang was more active in areas Bahadurke road, Jassian Road, grain market, Shimlapuri, Gill Road and Moti Nagar.
The arrested accused are identified as Lovedeep Singh Deepuof Jhabewal road, Bhamia, Gagandeep Singh of new jail, Faridkot, Deepak Kumar of Shimlapuri, Kulwinder Singh of Gaunsgarh, Amanjot Singh of Bulara, Shiv Kumar of BhamiaKalan and Vikran Singh of Jamalpur. The accused were arrested by the Division number 3 police from Transport Nagar, following a tip-off. The police have also recovered a 7.65 bore pistol with four live cartridges, 1 dummy pistol, 1 air gun, 4 sharp edged weapons, 6 motorcycles, one scooter, one internet dongle and 7 mobiles.
Commissioner of Police, Rakesh Agarwal said that it was a notorious gang of robbers, active in the city since long. The accused confessed to have executed approximately 100 snatching, loots and robberies since June till now. The accused do not have specific targets. They snatch mobiles from migrant labourers to execute robberies at gunpoint.
“Lovedeep Singh is the gang leader. All the gang members have nearly 28 criminal cases against them including robberies, snatching, thefts, attempt to murder and arms act. They all were arrested and lodged in Jail. But, later on they came out on bail and again started executing crimes. The accused are drug addicts and indulged into crime to meet the need for drugs” added Agarwal.
Further Assistant Commissioner of Police- Central WaryamSingh said that the gang was active in different areas of the city. At night, they used to threaten the factory workers at gunpoint or knife point and would snatch their mobiles and cash. Some of the robberies are executed by the accused in day time also on gunpoint. Recently, on October 9 the accused had robbed a sports bike worth Rs 1.5 Lakh at gunpoint from the employee of a realtor in Salem Tabri area. On October 6, the same gang had attempted a robbery bid at the office of a money changer, in Kashmir Nagar at gunpoint.
Further ACP added that the police further are questioning the accused to know from where they brought the weapons, used in the crime.
