Ponda: In a protest against the unprecedented increase in price of onions, Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (GPMCC) sold onions at Rs 25 per kg at the old bus stand Ponda on Tuesday.

The Mahila Congress managed to sell 50 kg of onions within half an hour. During the protest GPMCC president Pratima Coutinho demanded that the state government should sell onions at subsidised rate at Rs 25 per kg across the state by bearing the price difference on its head.

Speaking further Coutinho said that two different government agencies are selling onions at two different prices wherein the price difference is around Rs 30. Horticulture is selling onions at Rs 60 per kg while civil supply outlets are selling onions at Rs 32. This should stop and the government should provide onions at a uniform rate, she demanded.

We will continue our protest against the government by selling onions across the state until the government contraols the onion prices said Pratima Coutinho. She informed that on Wednesday GPMCC will sell onions at Valpoi market.
