MADURAI: The Madurai city police on Tuesday seized 300 kg of ganja and arrested a man, identified as R Malaisamy, 29, of Kattathevanpatti near Usilampatti.
Deputy commissioner of police S Shiva Prasad said his special team had received an alert about a bulk ganja movement. The special team and a team from the Subramaniyapuram police station conducted a vehicle check at Palanganatham.
A mini goods vehicle was stopped and a search was conducted. The police found ganja in the vehicle.
Shiva Prasad said that an inquiry was under way to find out the network behind the ganja smuggling. He said that various measures had been taken to prevent ganja sales and purchase in the city. So far, 600 kg of ganja was seized this month, he said.
