UGC to make JRF, SRF payments this week

NEW DELHI: Coming as a big relief to thousands of research scholars, the University Grants Commission (UGC) will disburse the emoluments to the Junior Research Fellows (JRF) and Senior Research Fellow (SRF) starting from Wednesday.
Officials said that the technical issues which had delayed the disbursals has been resolved and along with the existing emoluments, all backlogs would also be cleared and the amount would be deposited in the respective accounts. The JRF scheme is open to candidates who qualify in the National Eligibility Test (NET) of UGC and the UGC-Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) joint test and the tenure of fellowship is initially for two years.
Rajnish Jain, secretary, UGC said, “There were some technical problems due to change in financial procedures which resulted in the delay. However, the issues have been resolved and the fellowship emoluments will be deposited in the accounts of the research fellows in two to three days.”The fellowships have been pending for a few months now.
In 2019, the government enhanced the JRF emoluments from Rs 25,000 to Rs 31,000 per month. The amount for SRF, too, was enhanced to Rs 35,000 per month from Rs 28,000. The emoluments for the three categories of research associates too were also enhanced, with the research associate — III, the highest category, going up from Rs 40,000 to Rs 54,000 per month.
