Chandigarh, November 9

Just about two months after the Punjab and Haryana High Court set a two-week deadline for making all-out efforts to arrest the main accused in the Maur Mandi blast case, it today told the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) and other respondents to file a status report.

The Bench also fixed January 19, 2021, as the next date of hearing in the matter on the contempt petition filed by Gurjeet Singh Patran alleging wilful disobedience of the High Court orders. The Bench, in September, had expressed displeasure before directed the making of all-out efforts to nab the main accused.

The Bench observed that the SIT had concluded the inquiry and investigation and the challan had been put up before the trial court on January 29, but the main accused had not been taken into custody. “We show our displeasure that till date, the main accused have not been arrested,” the Bench had added.
