BJP wrests Dubbaka Assembly seat from ruling TRS in byelection

Hyderabad, Nov 10 (UNI) In a keenly contested byelection to the Dubbaka Assembly constituency in Telangana the Bharatiya Janata Party wrested the seat from the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Tuesday.
BJP candidate M Raghunandan Rao defeated his closest rival S.Sujatha of the TRS by a margin of 1,479 votes.
Mr Rao secured 62,772 votes while Ms.Sujatha polled 61,302 votes.
The Congress Candidate Cheruku Srinivas Reddy obtained 21,819 votes securing third place in the closely fought race.
The votes polled in the November 3 bypoll was counted in 23 rounds and right from round one the victorious BJP maintained its lead in most of the rounds.
Joyous scenes were witnessed in many parts of the state including at the BJP's state headquarters in Hyderabad with the party leaders bursting into song, dance and crackers to celebrate the party's victory in Dubbaka.
TRS working President and Minister K.T.Rama Rao said ''the result was not as per the wishes of the party though we all worked to win.''
