4 zones in Chennai now have only 1% active cases: Corporation

CHENNAI: Four of 15 zones in the city have only 1% active cases, according to information put out by Greater Chennai Corporation on Monday.
The zones are Manali, Tondiarpet, Royapuram and Teynampet. Manali has only 47 active cases and Shollinganallur

93. Madhavaram has 162 active cases while Tondiarpet and Royapuram have 202 and 250 cases each. The highest active cases in the city as on Monday are in Anna Nagar zone which has 435 cases. Exactly two weeks ago, all zones except Manali had more than 150 active cases, while the recovery percentage in the city was 93.
Around 95% of all Covid-19 cases within corporation limits have recovered, official sources said.
The number of fresh cases addition every day has gradually decreased in the city and the number of recoveries have also been more than the fresh cases, which has brought down the active cases.
As on Monday, only 200 streets in the city have Covid cases, the GCC said. While the southern region (zones 11-15) have 37 streets with cases, the northern region (1-5) have 74 streets. The remaining 89 streets are in the central region, where cases continue to be higher than the other regions. The test positivity rate in the city has come down to around 6% in the last few days. Testing remains consistent at around 11,000 everyday. On Monday, the number of fresh cases dropped to below 600, for the first time since May. The Test positivity rate then was around 15%.
Officials said they are not letting down their guard as the incubation period for the virus is around 14 days. “We will be maintaining vigil as during Diwali there are likely to be more crowds which may increase the spread,” an official said.
