Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami has moved the Supreme Court on Tuesday. In fact, Arnab Goswami has challenged the Bombay High Court's order in the Supreme Court, in which the court refused to grant interim bail to Goswami in a suicide case in 2018. Now the Supreme Court will hear the matter tomorrow i.e. on Wednesday, November 11.
Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami, who was arrested for allegedly abetting an interior designer and his mother for suicide in 2018, filed a petition in the Supreme Court for interim bail on Tuesday.
The Bombay High Court on Monday refused to grant interim bail to Arnab Goswami and two others in the case, saying they should go to the lower court for relief. The High Court had said that if the accused challenges their 'unlawful arrest' and files a bail application, the concerned lower court will decide it within four days.
Arnab also made the Maharashtra government a party
Arnab Goswami filed the appeal through advocate Nirmimesh Dubey against the High Court order. Arnab has also made the Maharashtra government as well as the Commissioner of Police, Alibaug police commissioner Param Bir Singh, in this petition. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government, through its advocate Sachin Patil, has also filed a caveat in the court so that no order is passed on Goswami's plea without hearing his side.
Arrested in this case
On November 4, the police of Alibag police station in Raigad district of Maharashtra arrested Arnab and his mother for allegedly forcing Anuya and her mother to commit suicide for not paying the dues of the interior designer's company.
The High Court while rejecting the interim bail application of Goswami and two other accused, Feroz Sheikh and Nitish Sarada, said that this does not constitute a case of use of extraordinary jurisdiction. The High Court will hear the petition filed for the revocation of the FIR on December 10. The three accused, including Goswami, were produced in a magistrate's court late on November 4, who refused to give them police custody and sent them to judicial custody till November 18.
Arnab was imprisoned in Taloja
Goswami was initially kept in the Kovid-19 detachment set up for Alibag jail but was shifted to Taloja jail in Raigad due to his alleged use of mobiles.
Meanwhile, Republic TV consulting editor Pradeep Bhandari wrote a letter to Chief Justice SA Bobde on Sunday urging Goswami to take cognizance of being shifted to Taloja jail and placed among dangerous criminals and provide them security. He said that Goswami's life was in danger and he was beaten on Sunday morning.
