Forming FPOs is on fast track

New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) The process of making ten thousand Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) across the nation is on a fast track.
Across the 35 states and union territories, coordination committees have been formed, while monitoring and coordination committees (DMC) have been formed in 400 districts, and, 411 product clusters have been certified so far, the Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar said here on Tuesday.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts are to organise the farmers so that more and more facilities can be made available to the farmers of the country.
At least one FPO will be formed in every block and to bring together facilities for the farmers around Rs 6800 crore expenditure will be incurred on the complete scheme.
As the government has taken various steps to make the country self-reliant, similarly agriculture field is also being made self dependent and the plan of making ten thousand FPOs is an important step towards this.
In the review meeting, the minister said that the formation of these FPOs will for sure provide the farmers with a new dimension, and will prove to be a milestone in making the Indian agriculture completely capable and profitable affair.
It was also informed in the meeting that 6,455 FPOs under various schemes have already been formed, that include states Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh ,Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.
The process of making a credit development fund for the FPOs has also begun, and the funds are being released from the ministries to the agencies, and they have also identified the clusters for the development of the same.
