GHAZIABAD: The district police have started ‘Operation Trinetra’ following the rising cases of chain-snatching and house-breaking in the city. Under this operation, police are urging the residents and shopkeepers to install CCTV cameras in their locality to prevent thefts and crimes.
According to the police, 640 CCTV cameras have been installed so far under this operation while 60% cameras have been installed in rural areas. Maximum 169 cameras have been installed in Modinagar area followed by 114 in Kotwali, 82 cameras have been installed in Sihani Gate and Sadar, 89 in Loni, 70 in Sahibabad and 34 in Indirapuram.
SSP Kalanidhi Naithani told TOI that police patrolling has been strengthened with the addition of cycle patrolling and the local police officers have been instructed to advise the members of residents’ welfare associations and market associations to install CCTV cameras in their localities for better law and order management. “The presence of CCTV cameras also acts as a deterrent in preventing crimes. The CCTV cameras installed at a gap of 500 meters would help in keeping a tab of unknown and suspected persons,” he said.
