The Shiv Sena on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the BJP, saying that celebrating the fourth anniversary of demonetization is like cutting a cake on the graves of those who were 'ruined' by it and many of whom committed 'suicide'.

In an editorial published in its mouthpiece 'Saamana', the Shiv Sena termed the 2016 demonetization decision as a 'black chapter' in the history of India.

The party claimed that demonetization and the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) had harmed the country's interests. Saamana wrote, "Celebrating the verdict (of demonetization), which led to the death of many people ... lost jobs ... committed suicides and devastated businesses and industries, just like such people Birthday cake cutting on graves. ''

It is noteworthy that on the fourth anniversary of the decision to discontinue old notes of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 on 8 November 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it helped reduce black money and bring transparency. Shiv Sena said that the BJP raised the issue of construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya and the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput in the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections but failed to impress the people.

Saamana wrote, "Fiza of Bihar changed after Tejashwi Yadav (RJD leader) promised to provide 10 lakh jobs. His rallies saw huge crowds. Most of them were unemployed youth, what does this indicate? '
