BJP wins three seats, Independent one in Manipur bypoll

Imphal, Nov 10 (UNI) BJP has won three seats and Independent won a seat out of
the four Assembly seats where bypoll were held on Nov 7 last.
The victors included O Lukhoi, Minister Agriculture from Wangoi, former Minister
Ngamthang Haokip from Saitu, P Brojen from Wangjing Tentha. All three were
re-elected as candidates of BJP after they resigned from Congress.
Md Abdul Nasir was the only former MLA who was defeated. He had resigned from
Congress and contested as Independent supported by BJP.
Oinam Lukhoi Singh of Bharatiya Janata Party won the Wangoi assembly bypoll by
a margin of 257 votes. He got 10960 while his nearest rival Khuraijam Loken Singh of
National People's Party got 10703 . Salam Joy Singh of Indian National Congress got
5591.
Y Antas, Independent defeated Md Abdul Nasir, Ind supported by BJP by a margin
of 3078 votes. Antas got 17106 while Nasir got 14028 votes. Md Azizul of Congress
got just 142 votes.
Paonam Brojen Singh of BJP defeated his nearest rival Moirangthem Hemanta of
INC by 1560 votes. Brojen got 15147 while Hemanta got 13587. S Manaobi, Ind got
328 votes.
Ngamthang Haokip of BJP won the Saitu Assembly defeating his nearest rival
Lamtinthang Haokip of INC by a margin of votes 12144 votes.
Ngamthang got 24394 while Lamtinthang got 12250.
Dr. Lamtinthang Haokip, said he was compelled to convey his words of Congratulations
to Pu Ngamthang Haokip, for winning the numbers.
He added, the result though, was expected as undue and conceded the defeat, not as
people’s mandate, rather the mandate of money and muscle power.
Counting began at 0800 hours and the EVMs were brought out from the strong rooms.
Postal ballots were counted in a separate room.
The final polling percentage was recorded to be 94.90 percent in Wangoi, Lilong recorded
a turnout of 93.3 per cent while Wangjing Tentha recorded 92.3 per cent. Saitu recorded
91.59 per cent which was marred with alleged denial of Congress supporters to come out
and arrest of Congress candidate’s agent on the day of election.

Imphal, Nov 10 (UNI) Ngamthang Haokip of BJP has won the Saitu Assembly bypoll
defeating his nearest rival Lamtinthang Haokip of INC by a margin of 12144 votes.
