Margao: Finally, after decades, Margao Municipal Council (MMC) building corridors will wear a neat look as the chief officer of the council has taken up the task of ensuring the passageways of MMC building are free of all sorts of discarded waste material, which has become an eyesore.
The corridors of the heritage building had turned into a place to dump mostly redundant material including old wooden cupboards and other furniture, old files and different other things.
The chief officer Agnelo Fernandes, who took the charge of the office two months ago, had assured the outgoing councillors during their second last meeting that was held on October 22, that he would ensure cleanliness of the corridors.
“Since Monday, the cleaning up of the corridors has begun. Each day, nearly ten workers are doing the work. Once the cleaning is done, important files, that are dumped along with the waste, would be preserved. Inventory of the old cupboards and other items will also be made before clearing them. Besides painting work will also be taken up,’’ Fernandes stated.
The daily had earlier highlighted how the corridors of the MMC had been turned into a dumping spot for e-waste, old furniture, files etc.
“It will take another fifteen days for the clean-up,” Fernandes stated.
