BJP clean sweeps Gujarat bypolls

Gandhinagar, Nov 10 (UNI) The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday won all the eight seats, which went for bypolls last week, the Election Commission data showed.
The principal opposition Indian National Congress drew a blank, reducing its number of MLAs to 65, while the strength of BJP rose to 109 in the 182-member House.
The Congress MLAs from Abdasa, Limbdi, Dhari, Gadhada, Karjan, Dangs, Kaprada and Morbi constituencies had resigned in the middle of this year, before the Rajya Sabha polls.
Five of them later joined the BJP and contested on the saffron party ticket.
The bypolls were seen as a litmus test for BJP new state president C R Patil, under whose leadership, Gujarat will go for polls in 2022.
