Counting for four Assembly seats begins in Manipur

Imphal, Nov 10 (UNI) Counting for four Assembly seats of Manipur

where bypoll was held on Nov 7 last began today at 0800 hours.

For Wangoi the counting was done at Lamphelpat, Imphal West. Seven

tables were laid for the counting process. Postal ballots will be

counted inside the Kombirei hall located near the entrance of the DC

office complex. The sealed EVMs were stored inside the strong room.

Out of the 28,561 electors, a total of 27,103 voters cast their votes

on the polling day of which 13088 are males while 14,015 are female

voters. The final polling percentage was recorded to be 94.90 per cent

in Wangoi.

For Lilong and Wangjing Tentha counting was done at Thoubal DC

office. For Saitu counting was done at Kangpokpi DC office. Lilong

recorded a turnout of 93.3 per cent while Wangjing Tentha recorded

92.3 per cent. Saitu recorded 91.59 per cent which was marred with

alleged denial of Congress supporters to come out and arrest of

Congress candidate’s agent on the day of the election.

In Wangoi former Congress MLA, Oinam Lukhoi Singh now a BJP Candidate was in the fray against Salam Joy Singh of Indian National Congress and Khuraijam Loken Singh of National People's Party (NPP).

Lilong has three candidates . Md Azizul Haque Khan of Indian

National Congress (INC) former Congress MLA, Mohd Abdul Nasir (Ind)

and Y. Antas Khan (Ind). Former Congress MLA and now BJP candidate

Ngamthang Haokip was in the fray against Lamtinthang Haokip of Indian

National Congress (INC) in Saitu.

In Wangjing Tentha, Moirangthem Hemanta Singh of Indian National

Congress (INC), S. Manaobi, Independent and former Congress MLA

Paonam Brojen Singh now a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate were

in the fray.
