PM gives call for 'Local this Diwali' to his Varanasi voters

Varanasi, Nov 9 (UNI) Giving a clarion call for ‘local for this Diwali’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a gift of over Rs 614 crore projects to his parliamentary constituency on the eve of ‘Festival of Lights’- Diwali while inaugurating and laying the foundation stones of about 30 projects through video conferencing on Monday.
“I’m not calling upon you to throw your foreign made articles into the river Ganga but I want that the products of locals should only be used during the forthcoming festivals because it would help in accelerating the pace of our overall economic development,” he said.
He was seen in different colours during his interaction when he did not use local Bhojpuri dialects in starting of his address as he did most of the times during his visits in the past but he also spoke in the same on some occasions.
Wooing the locals, PM said whenever he had sought anything from them they had given the same with open mind, expressing hope that the Banarasis would promote the local products as ‘it’s our responsibility’ he added without taking the name of Chinese products which were sold huge in quantities during the festival seasons in the recent time.
During his address,Mr Modi also highlighted the steps taken by his government for the overall development of rural areas, especially the living condition of the farmers. According to him, the government has tried to help the farmers directly connect with the markets by making laws without any interference of the middlemen. Though the PM did not mention the protests against the laws being seen in some states, he indirectly tried to defend the steps of his government on the same issue.
He highlighted the government steps to support the farmers through Svamitva Yojana in view to help them avoid land disputes. He also highlighted the measures to improve the condition of the poor street vendors through Pradhanmantri Svanidhi Yojana, in which Varanasi had performed superbly well recently.

“All the remarkable developments are being done in Varanasi with the blessings of Lord Vishwanath, Lord Kal Bhaiarav and Goddess Annapurna as 16 projects were inaugurated and foundation stones of 14 others were laid,” said Modi, praising the Chief Minister and his team for their sincere efforts,”
PM said under the Ganga Action Plan, Shahi Nalla has been diverted towards Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). He further said Khikhiya Ghat is being developed where the facilities of CNG would be available for boats in view to reduce the pollution in river Ganga. Besides, Tourists Plaza is being developed near Dashaswamedh Ghat which would be a centre of attraction and the petty traders would get benefits from the same.
For the promotion of tourism light and sound show has been started at Sarnath apart from completion of several development projects. According to him, at Babatpur airport, two boarding bridges have been constructed which would further facilitate the passengers. “During the last six years, the number of flights at this airport has jumped from 12 to 48 daily,” he said.
The PM also highlighted various projects being completed in the field of agricultural growth. “It was the results of these development works, recently Varanasi had exported fruits, vegetables and rice,” he said, adding that the city had seen remarkable growth in the fields of health sector as upgradation projects of LBS Government Hospital, Ramnagar was launched. “Today, these developments in the health sector not only benefiting the city and Purvanchal (eastern UP) but also parts of the eastern India,” he stated.
Earlier, during his interaction with three people present at different areas, he also asked the latter’s views on changing faces of the city. Interacting with international volleyball player Ms Prashanti Singh, Mr Modi said that he always wanted to talk to the concerned persons of different fields so he could know the ground realities.
Ms Prashanti praised the recent development in Sampurnanand Sports Stadium where a players’ hostel and other projects were completed along with demand for a Centre of Excellence in the city also and in connection with her demand, the response of the PM was positive.
Besides, PM also interacted with an entrepreneur of Chandpur Industrial Estate who apprised the former of the problems faced by the industries during the Corona pandemic. However, the entrepreneur added that now all the units have started running smoothly, praising the efforts of the central and state governments for their support. During his interaction with a housewife of Kal Bhairav area, the PM asked about cleanliness and changes in the lanes of Kashi and in reply, the former highlighted various projects done in the areas under Smart City project.
In the beginning, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the PM highlighting various projects going on at Kashi Vishwanath Dham and Dashasamedh, saying that the projects worth over Rs 18,000 crores were done in Varanasi during the last six years.
The live telecast of this virtual program was watched by over 1,800 selected persons on big screens at six places including Trade Facility Centre, Circuit House, Divisional Office Auditorium, Dashaswamedh Ghat, LBS Airport and Shoolkanteshwar.
