Tamil Nadu reported 18 deaths and 2,257 fresh
Covid-19 cases on Monday, which pushed the toll to 11,362 and case tally to 7,46,079.
The state government announced that there were 343 Covid-19 containment zones in 28 districts.
At least 74,508 people were tested in the last 24 hours. While 2,308 people were discharged taking the total number of people discharged to 7,15,892.
At least 28 districts reported zero deaths. While Chennai reported 10 deaths, eight other districts – Kancheepuram, Kanyakumari, Nagapattinam, Salem, Tiruvallur, Tirunelveli, Tirupur and Villupuram – reported one death each.
All districts in the state reported cases. Chennai had 585 fresh cases and 10 deaths. Together the northern districts added 52% fresh cases (1,190) and 72% deaths (13). At least half (9,957) active cases 19 were in the eleven northern districts.
The eight western districts together reported 633 cases and two deaths. While Coimbatore reported 189 cases, Tirupur and Salem reported 112 and 105 cases, respectively. Erode reported 98 cases and Namakkal reported 54 cases.
The southern districts together reported 221 cases and two deaths. All 10 districts recorded a rise in two digits with 46 fresh cases in Madurai followed by Kanyakumari (35), Tuticorin (31) and Tirunelveli (27).
The Central districts together reported 213 cases and one death. With 43 cases, Trichy reported the highest number of cases, followed by Thanjavur (42), Karur (36) and Thiruvarur (32).
Chief secretary K Shanmugam said in a statement that Tiruvannamalai district had the highest number of 40 containment zones as on November 6, while Coimbatore (38), Tiruvarur (36), Kancheepuram (26), Tirupur (21) had more than 20 containment zones. Chennai had two containment zones, it said.
Nine districts - Dindigul, Erode, Dharmapuri, Perambular, Sivagangai, Thanjavur, Ramanathapuram, Vellore, and Villupuram - completed containment.
