AAM Report: 'Afar' Magazine Has Largest Audience Growth

Travel magazine Afar grew its audience across platforms by 130.2% from September 2019 to September 2020, according to the latest quarterly "Magazine Media 360°" report from the Alliance for Audited Media, which measures magazine media audiences across platforms.

Afar had the largest increase in audiences of the nearly 100 magazines included in the report, as it was in AAM’s la st report released in August based on June data.

The Magazine Media 360° report includes data on print and digital editions, web, mobile web and video audiences.

Backpacker (47.8%), Veranda (43.8%) and The Atlantic (34.9%) also witnessed big gains in audiences year-over-year, according to the report.

People (89.1 million), Allrecipes (61.7 million) and Good Housekeeping (60.7 million) had the largest brand audiences across platforms in September 2020.

Total audience on all platforms across the magazine brands was up 5.9% year-over-year.

Mobile web audiences went up 15.8% from September 2019 to September 2020. Web (desktop/laptop) audiences grew 13.7%. 

Video audiences grew 6%.

Print and digital audiences, which include those that consume electronic issues of a publication, such as an e-reader or app, were down by 3.4%.

The magazine audience report was previously released monthly by trade organization MPA—The Association of Magazine Media. The report is now released quarterly, in February, May, August and November.

The Alliance for Audited Media is a nonprofit media auditing firm.
