AMBALA: Miscreants targeted an 85-year-old man in Ambala Cantonment, allegedly drugged him with some sedatives and fled away with his cash and gold ring.
On Sunday, Dr Amritpal Singh of Tara Nagar, Rambagh Road, Ambala Cantt, son of the victim man lodged a complaint alleging that some unknown persons have stolen cash and a gold ring of his father Pritam Singh.
On the complaint of Dr Amritpal, a case has been registered under Section 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc.) and 379 (punishment for theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Ambala Cantt police station on Sunday.
In his police complaint, Dr Amritpal stated, “On Saturday, at about 12.30 pm, my father Pritam Singh (85) who is retired from railway mail services (RMS) had gone to General Post Office, Ambala Cantt for withdrawing his pension. But he did not return home for long and we went out in search of him. At about 8 pm, we found him drugged on the main road near Gandhi Ground. He was either given some sedative in his food or was made to inhale something. He was unconscious. He carried about Rs 10-15 thousand and wore a gold ring and the same are missing.”
While talking to TOI, the complainant said, “Initially, we did not know about the exact amount that my father carried. But on Monday, we confirmed from the record that he withdrew Rs 30,000 from his pension and carried Rs 10,000 cash extra. My father could recall that when he came out from the post office after withdrawing cash, a young person met him outside who made him smell something and he lost his senses. The person removed a gold ring from his finger and stole all the cash as well. My father roamed on the roads in an inebriated condition.”
Ambala Cantt police station house officer (SHO) inspector Vijay Kumar said, “We have registered a case and investigating further on the available leads. The condition of the complainant’s father is fine.”
Notably, on Saturday, Rs 2 lakh was snatched from Ashok Jain (70) of Ambala Cantt who runs a gas agency, when he was on his way to deposit cash at Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch at GT Road at about 11.10 am.
So far, the police are yet to make any breakthrough in both these cases.
