THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: On Sunday, 5,440
new Covid-19 cases were reported while 6,853 recovered from the infection. Over four lakh (4,02,477) have been cured of Covid in the state. While 4,86,109 cases have been reported to date, the number of active cases has come down to 81,823.
Of the new cases, 5.335 had contracted the virus through local contacts and 585 cases were of unknown sources. While 105 of the fresh cases were returnees, 51 medical staff were also infected on the day. Meanwhile, 24 more deaths were confirmed as caused by Covid taking the toll in the state to 1,693.
Ernakulam reported the highest number of new cases, 644 followed by Thrissur, 641, Kozhikode, 575, Malappuram, 540, Kollam, 488, Alappuzha, 479, Thiruvananthapuram, 421, Kottayam, 406, Kannur, 344, Palakkad, 306, Idukki, 179, Kasaragod, 159, Pathanamthitta, 153 and Wayanad, 105.
Malappuram reported the most recoveries with 906, followed by Thiruvananthapuram, 881, Ernakulam, 845, Thrissur, 834, Kozhikode, 825, Kottayam, 623, Kollam, 578, Alappuzha, 471, Pathanamthitta, 230, Palakkad, 172, Kasaragod, 152, Kannur, 138, Wayanad, 105 and Idukki, 93.
In 24 hours, 48,798 tests were conducted in the state. There are 3,14,684 people under isolation, including 2,94,358 at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 20,326 in hospitals. The state has 617 hotspots.
