Tablet: Important information about the Age for iPad app
Dear valued subscribers,
Thank you for your continued support and readership.
From time to time we must consider and streamline our product offering, which has meant we will be closing The Age for iPad app on December 31, 2020.
Crosswords and sudoku will no longer be available via the app from November 30, 2020, and then no further articles will be published to The Age for iPad app from December 31, 2020.
Our team has been working hard to provide you a similar experience in our new iOS Age app, now available on your tablet and mobile devices. Our new app includes similar premium features such as daily crosswords and sudoku, the digital version of the daily newspaper and all your favourite sections.
If you are billed directly by iTunes, to continue your subscription you will need to resubscribe via the new Age app; further instructions can be found below.
Alternatively, if you are billed directly via The Age, you have unlimited access to our new app for iOS included as part of your subscription. If you have not done so already, you will need to download the new Age app and use your current subscription details to log in.
We'd like to thank you for your continued readership.

Why are we closing The Age for iPad app?
The closure of The Age for iPad app is part of our drive to streamline our product offering and focus on further improving the subscriber experience on our new iOS app. Our team is dedicated to enhancing the new Age app. Over the past few months we've migrated premium features such as crosswords, sudoku, Today's Paper and all your favourite sections from this tablet app to our new app. Plus the new app now works across your smartphone and tablet. Keep an eye out for further improvements to the new Age app in the coming months.
If I subscribed directly via this tablet app, what do I do?
If your subscription is billed directly via iTunes, your subscription only gives you full access to this version of the tablet app. If you would like unrestricted access to the new app, you'll need to resubscribe via the new Age app.
To avoid an overlap in your subscription billing, we recommend you stop your Age for iPad app subscription in iTunes when you subscribe to the new Age app.
You can cancel your current Age for iPad subscription by following the below steps:
- Open the "Settings" on your iPad home screen.
- Tap on your Apple ID at the top left sidebar.
- On your profile page tap "Subscriptions".
- Select the "Age for iPad" subscription and then tap "Cancel Subscription" and then "Confirm".
- The subscription will then expire once your billing cycle has finished.
Secondly, you can subscribe directly to the new Age app. If you have not yet downloaded the new app on your tablet, tap here or search for "The Age" in the app store.
Then follow the below steps:
- Open the new Age app.
- If you are logged in from when you activated your premium access as part of your Age for iPad app subscription, you will need to log out.
- To log out, tap "More" from the bottom menu and then open the settings icon in the top right of the screen to select "Log out".
- Next, tap "Subscribe" in the top right corner of the app.
- Select "Premium" from the top bar to view the Premium Digital package and then tap "Subscribe".
- Finally, tap "Subscribe" again to confirm the purchase.
If you are experiencing issues, please contact our Customer Service team on 13 66 66.
If I subscribed via theage.com.au, what do I do?
If your subscription is billed directly via The Age, you have unlimited access to the app included as part of your subscription. Simply download and log in for uninterrupted access to every story on our new app. If you are having issues logging in, please try to reset your password by clicking the forgotten password link or contact our Customer Service team on 13 66 66 for further assistance.
Is the new Age app free to download?
The new Age app is free to download with limited access to articles. For unlimited access to the new Age app you would need to pay for a subscription. Subscriptions can be taken out either via iTunes or directly with The Age. Only subscribers have access to every section and feature on the new Age app.
How can I continue to play Daily Crosswords and Daily Sudoku?
You can continue to play our puzzles on the new Age app or on theage.com.au with a Premium subscription. In order to continue your Premium subscription, you must follow the above steps to resubscribe to our new app, depending on where you are currently billed for your subscription.
Will my crossword and sudoku scores be transferred across to the new app?
We recommend you record any results you would like to keep from My Scores as unfortunately your scores cannot be transferred across to the new app.
What's included in the new app?
The new Age app keeps you connected throughout the day with real-time updates as soon as the headlines break. You can also test your skills with our daily crosswords or relax with your favourite sections such as Good Weekend. Plus, access Today's Paper, your digital version of the daily newspaper. Unlike your current app, the new app works across both tablet and smartphone.
What will happen if I don't do anything?
Your subscription will automatically be cancelled once the app is closed and your iTunes account will no longer be billed by The Age for iPad app.
I've deleted the current Age for iPad app from my device. Why can't I download it again?
Unfortunately, The Age for iPad app is no longer available to download from the app store. If you delete the app from your device, you will not be able to download it again. We advise using the new Age app as a replacement. Plus, the new app works across both your tablet and mobile devices.
