With a jump of almost 45,000 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, India's coronavirus tally touched the 85.5 lakh mark, government data shows. India also recorded 490 deaths linked to the viral disease in the 24-hour period taking its overall Covid death count to 1,26,611.
The 45,903 new infections in India were 0.5% higher than yesterday's. In this period, almost 48,000 people also recovered from the viral disease. With this, more than 79 lakh people have recovered from COVID-19, and there are now a little over 5 lakh active cases of coronavirus.
India's average daily case count has remained 45,000 for about two weeks now. Average daily deaths remained in the 480 to 490 range in this period with average daily testing of 8.5-9.5 lakh.
As the national case rise stagnates, the onset of winter and pollution left Delhi grappling with a third wave of coronavirus - its most severe yet.
Meanwhile, the world has reached the grim milestone of 50 million confirmed coronavirus cases on Sunday, Johns Hopkins University's coronavirus tracker reported.
Globally, more than 1.2 million have died of COVID-19 - the disease caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 - since the first cases were reported in China.

Indore reported 108 new cases of novel coronavirus on Sunday, taking the district's tally to 34,725, according to the Chief Medical and Health Officer Praveen Jadia.

UP reports 2,247 new coronavirus cases, 26 deaths
Uttar Pradesh reported 2,247 new COVID-19 cases and 26 deaths on Sunday, according to state's government data.
1,858 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the overall recoveries count to 4,67,108.
At present, active cases in the state stand at 23,249 and death toll at 7,206.
Coronavirus: Sikkim reports 50 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths
Sikkim's COVID-19 tally mounted to 4,245 as 50 more people tested positive for the infection while two more fatalities pushed the deaths to 78, an official said on Sunday.
The State Information Education Communication (IEC) member Sonam Bhutia said that East Sikkim reported 40 cases, South Sikkim (9) and West Sikkim (1).
He said the state presently has 273 active COVID-19 cases, while 3,810 patients have recovered from the disease and 84 others have migrated to other states.
A total of 58,173 samples have been tested so far in the state, including 210 samples in the last 24 hours, Mr Bhutia added.
