Muñoz: Joined Hyundai Motor Co. in 2019
Hyundai Motor Co. COO José Muñoz has received the El Mundo Motor Protagonist award, recognizing him as the world's highest-ranking Spanish auto executive.
Muñoz's hiring in May 2019 put him ahead of a former colleague, José Vicente De Los Mozos, a manufacturing executive at Renault.
The award is given by the newspaper El Mundo, which has an audience in Spain and among Hispanic people in the U.S.
Muñoz, 54, oversees the North and South American markets for Hyundai. He previously held a number of roles at Nissan Motor Co. and has a doctoral degree in nuclear engineering from Polytechnic University of Madrid, as well as a master's in business administration from Instituto de Empresa in Madrid.
