VARANASI: Gifting projects of over Rs 600 crore for his parliamentary constituency ahead of the festival of Diwali, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday appealed to people to buy local products this Diwali.
"I don't ask to dump previously purchased products or stop buying those articles, which are not produced in the country", said Modi mentioning, buying only earthen lamps should not be interpreted as meaning of going vocal for local.
Modi urged people to focus on all local products and promote them too as it will boost the confidence of producers. It will encourage them to give a major contribution to the growth of country's economy, he added.
Highlighting how Varanasi has witnessed growth in infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, industrial and all fronts, he said that these developments have reduced dependency of people from eastern parts of the country on major centres like Delhi and Mumbai as they are coming here to avail advanced facilities.
Earlier, Modi inaugurated 16 ready projects of Rs 220 crore and laid foundation of 14 new projects worth Rs 400 crore virtually. He also interacted with international basketball player Prashanti Singh, an industrialist and a housewife to get feedback on developments taken place in their sector and locality concerned. CM Yogi Adityanath also remained connected online form Lucknow.
