David Collado, the Minister of Tourism of Dominican Republic, reported that during this long weekend, majority of hotels in the East and Samaná of the province are full at their maximum capacity as Puerto Plata has 65% to 70%.
Collado gave hint that hotel occupancy last month have raised by 50%. In September, 49 thousand visitors had come, in October, over 71 thousand tourists landed in the Dominican Republic.
Collado mentioned that for this weekend, more than 120 Mitur supervisors would visit some hotels unexpectedly with a mission to verify compliance with sanitary regulations.
“The health of the Dominicans is not at stake; we have an urgency to recover tourism, to recover jobs and the economy,” said the official.
Before a meeting in the Government House between President Luis Abinader and the Tourism Commission, the Minister of Tourism expressed his thoughts. They will confirm which points need to be reinforced to attract maximum foreign guests in the upcoming winter.
According to Collado, the available rooms fulfill the hygiene protocol to keep away from the spread of COVID-19.
He requested the Dominican families to leave the city cautiously, with respect for traffic signs and hygiene protocol.
