LUDHIANA: A 32-year-old man committed suicide at his house in Sandila Colony on Dhandra Road on Saturday evening after his wife solemnised her second marriage without a divorce.
The deceased has been identified as Manpreet Singh. The police, on Sunday, arrested his wife, Gulshan, and her second husband, Deepak.
Manpreet’s father Jagdev Singh said in his police complaint, “Manpreet had tied the knot with Gulshan in 2010. They have a six-year-old son. Due to their strained relations, Gulshan along with their son started living with her parents in Jagraon about five years ago.”
A few days ago, Manpreet learned that Gulshan had solemnised second marriage without a divorce.
“He had been upset since then. When Manpreet did not open his room on Saturday night, I, along with neighbours, broke open the door and found Manpreet lying motionless,” he added.
Manpreet had slit his wrist with a knife. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Sadar police recovered a suicide note from the spot.
Basant Avenue police post in-charge ASI Ranjit Singh said, “In the suicide note, Manpreet has held his wife and her second husband responsible for his taking the extreme step. The two have been arrested under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC.”
