The Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement (IESM) has urged Defence Minister Rajnath Singh not to raise the retirement age of officers. It has also said the government must not reduce the pension of those who seek pre-mature retirement.

Terming it a retrograde step, the IESM said it would damage the military profession. “If such illegal, demotivating and demoralising proposal is allowed to be implemented, it will make military unattractive to youngsters,” said Maj-Gen Satbr Singh (retd) in a letter to the minister.

“The policy can impact the efficiency and effectiveness of our military. The forces need to be structured and managed,” stated the letter. — TNS
