Kolkata, November 9

Kolkata Police have initiated legal action after Madhu Purnima Kishwar, founder editor of the feminist magazine “Manushi”, posted on twitter a video of an Islamist procession and claimed that the footage was from Kolkata.

Kolkata Police posted a screenshot of the tweet on its twitter handle and wrote, “A video clip from Bangladesh is being falsely claimed to be from Kolkata. Legal action initiated”.

Former Tripura and Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy, an ideological co-traveller of Kishwar, was first to point out her indiscretion.

“This is an Islamist procession in Dhaka, not Kolkata. They are shouting slogans against atheists and in slightly nuanced language against Hindus. They are yelling, those who are against Islam have no place in ‘this Bangla’, go to Hindustan,” Roy tweeted, tagging Kishwar.

Kishwar, ICSSR National Professor, who describes herself in her twitter bio as one who is “averse to all isms”, has since removed the video from the microblogging site. In response to a query from a follower, she answered “I am told the video is from Bangladesh.”
