Hyderabad: The Telangana police are committed to the safety of women and children, Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said here on Monday after inaugurating a helpdesk for women at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

Pointing out that the RGIA was the fourth busiest airport in India after the Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru airports, Sajjanar said the Cyberabad Police had taken the initiative to set up the helpdesk to help women travelling to Hyderabad on work or other reasons, so that they could reach out for help in case of any emergency.

Women police constables would be available 24X7 at the helpdesk to assist women in need, he said, requesting women facing teasing, stalking or any other atrocity to approach the She Teams by messaging on WhatsApp number 9490617444 or by using the Dial 100 facility.

The RGIA handles 22 million passengers per annum, approximately 62000 passengers per day. Around 30 to 35 percent of these passengers are women which is around 9000 to 9500 passengers for both arrival and departure, he said, emphasizing on the need for such an initiative.
