The commuters on the Ishmeet Singh road here are a harried lot as the potholes on the stretch not being repaired. Thousands of commuters take this road, linking Pakhowal Road and Dugri Road.

Early repair promised

Councillor from Ward No. 46, Harbhajan Singh Dang, said one third part of the road falls in his ward. “I will raise the matter before the MC authorities to get the road reconstructed or re-carpeted.” MC’s Superintending Engineer, Rahul Gagneja, said the potholes would be repaired at the earliest.

The residents demand from the civic body the repair of the potholes and re-carpeting of the road at the earliest. As a portion of the road has also got damaged due to the ongoing construction work of an underpass near the Pakhowal road turn, residents demand that this part should be repaired at the earliest.

Residents said months ago, patch work was done on the stretch, but the road surface was not properly levelled. “I have been witnessing the potholes on the stretch for the past several months. A number of potholes were filled, but still many are crying for attention. The civic body should take immediate steps to get the road repaired. The MC should also take the required measures to reconstruct the road at those points where potholes are appearing again and again,” said a resident of Model Town.

Gurpal Singh Grewal of Model Town said, “It is a main road that also leads to the cremation ground. As heavy vehicles pass through this stretch, potholes generally appear and these should be repaired properly. Whenever any pothole appears, the MC should ensure its immediate repair.”

As underpass construction work is going on near Pakhowal Road, the damaged road portion should also be repaired so that the commuters can heave a sigh of relief. The road portion is not levelled there. The commuters face a lot of inconvenience due to the plumes of dust raised by vehicles, he said.
