Desi Twitter celebrates Kamala's victory

Washington, Nov 8 (UNI) Desi Twitter, the digital space where South Asians share everything from personal details to political commentary, celebrated the election of first South Asian-American woman Vice-President of US Kamala Harris, at the weekend.
On Saturday, Desi Twitterati congratulated Harris, who traces her roots to a small town in Tamil Nadu, as in her victory speech, she remembered her late mother Shyamala Gopalan, which touched an emotional chord with many immigrants.
''And to the woman most responsible for my presence here today - my mother, Shyamala Gopalan Harris, who is always in our hearts.
''When she came here from India at the age of 19, maybe she didn't quite imagine this moment.
''But she believed so deeply in an America where a moment like this is possible. So, I'm thinking about her and about the generation of women...,'' she added.
