AMBALA: Two motorcycle-borne snatchers targeted a senior citizen and snatched about Rs 2.15 lakh cash, which he was going to deposit at a bank in Ambala Cantonment area at about 11.10 am on Saturday.
Ashok Jain (70) of Maharani Jhansi Marg, Ambala Cantt lodged a complaint at Ambala Cantt police station and a case has been registered against unknown persons under Section 379-A (punishment for snatching) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on Saturday.
In his police complaint, Ashok whose wife Manju Jain holds proprietorship of AV Gas Agency in Ambala Cantt stated, "I run AV Gas Agency (HPCL distributor) and on Saturday at about 11.10 am, I went to deposit Rs 2,15,860 cash of agency to PNB Bank branch at GT Road, Ambala Cantt in my personal car. Due to road construction work, I was forced to park my car at some distance. When I picked up my cash bag from the car, suddenly two unknown youths came towards me at a fast speed by riding a motorcycle and snatched the bag containing Rs 2,15,860 from my hand and ran away on the road towards Farukha Khalsa School."
Ashok added that he got completely nervous and lost his senses and could not note down the motorcycle number.
Ambala Cantt police station house officer (SHO) inspector Vijay Kumar said, “We have deputed three teams to trace accused involved in this case and positive leads have been established. The investigation is being done and we are hopeful of apprehending the snatchers.”
Delhi couple lose purse containing cash, jewellery to ‘oil leak tricksters’
In another case, a Delhi-based couple lost a purse containing cash and jewellery from their car in Ambala city to motorcyclists who tricked them with ‘oil leak trick’ on Saturday.
On the complaint of Ashok Kumar of Nirankari Colony, Delhi-9, a case has been registered against unknown persons under Section 379 (punishment for theft) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Baldev Nagar police station in Ambala on Saturday.
Ashok Kumar stated to the police, “We came to Ambala City to attend the retirement party of our aunt at Sonda village. On Saturday, at about 11.30 am, I along with my wife were driving in our car to Galaxy Mall, Sector 7, Ambala City. When we were passing from in front of the civil hospital, Ambala City, two youths commuting on a motorcycle signaled me that something is leaking from my car. I and my wife stopped the car on the roadside and checked after opening the bonnet and found that some oil was spilled.”
“After checking, when we were about to sit in the car, my wife saw that the youths fled away after picking her purse containing Rs 22,000 cash, 5.50gm gold jewellery, documents, and ATM cards”, further added Ashok Kumar.
Baldev Nagar SHO inspector Hamir Singh said, “This is the first such case which has been registered in Ambala. The couple got tricked as both of them came out of their vehicle to check the alleged oil leak. We have inspected the area but no CCTV camera footage could be obtained from that area. We have obtained the mobile dumped data and the investigation is being carried forward. The CCTV cameras in other parts of the city are also being looked into. The residents should beware of such tricksters."
