Nine CFTRI researchers make it to world's top 2 pc scientists' list

Mysuru, Nov 8 (UNI) Nine CSIR Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) scientists, here have been recognised internationally for their achievement in food, science and biotechnical field.
The list announced by Stanford University acknowledges the top two per cent scientists from all over the world.
Out of 18 researchers listed in the food and science area, eight of the following are from India: Dr K Srinivasan, Dr RN Taranathan, Dr NK Rastogi, Dr GK Jayaprakasha, Dr PS Negi, Dr Suvendu Bhattacharya, Dr K Akhilender Naidu and Dr KR Bhattacharya (from CFTRI), whereas, Dr S Divakar received recognition in the area of Biotechnology.
Of these researchers, Dr NK Rastogi and Dr PS Negi are currently in service.
The analysis was conducted using citations from Scopus for assessing scientists for career-long citation impact till the end of 2019 and the citation impact during a single calendar year 2019. The scientists were organised into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields using the indicators, according to a press release from Dr S V N Vijayendra, Coordinator, Information & Publicity, CSIR-CFTRI.
Prof K Basavaiah, Retired Professor of Chemistry, University of Mysore, ranks 1671st in the world ranking list with 264 research papers in the field of Analytical Chemistry. He ranks 11 of 13 in India.
Of the four Professors who have been featured in the list from the conventional Universities in Karnataka, Prof Basavaiah stands second.
Prof Basavaiah has developed simple and affordable analytical methods for the assay of over 100 organic molecules of therapeutic value in pure and dosage forms, and also in body fluids. He has published more than 500 research papers in journals of repute.
In recognition of his contribution to Basic Science Research, post-retirement, Prof Basavaiah was awarded the prestigious BSR Faculty Fellowship by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, for a period of three years (August 2014 to July 2017).
