Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said on Saturday that extensive arrangements had been made by the Commission for safe voting in the Bihar Assembly elections. In the extraordinary situation of Corona, the Election Commission had to make arrangements for the elderly, the differently-abled, the corona victims, or the people living in the Quarantine. To meet these challenges, voting time was extended by one hour. Apart from this, the number of polling stations was increased by 63 percent.
Chandra said that polling officers at all polling stations were on duty equipped with PPE kits and other measures. A large number of people suffering from corona exercised their franchise in all three phases.
The Commission had made separate arrangements for them to cast their votes in the last hour. We wanted to ensure that not a single corona infected was deprived of the right to vote. Chandra said that the first two phases of polling have allayed all fears and doubts, with voters in Bihar defeating the fear of the virus by engaging with the elections. This is the reason that a large number of voters went out in three phases and exercised their franchise.
