GURUGRAM: The special investigating team probing the murder of Pooja Sharma, a 25-year-old executive with a private firm who was shot dead by three masked men on the Southern Peripheral Road last week, is scanning a CCTV clip showing three persons on a bike to identify the accused.
But what has made the job difficult for the cops is the quality of the footage, which is too poor.
Moreover, the stretch where Pooja is believed to have been attacked is not properly lit, which is why it has become all the more difficult to scan the faces of the three men on a bike.
“There are certain locations where three persons on a bike can be seen in the clip. They could be the accused. But the footage is of such bad quality that we are not being able to identify them,” said a Gurugram police officer.
According to him, CCTV cameras installed in buildings along the stretch are not equipped to properly capture night vision images.
ACP (crime) Preetpal Sangwan said different units were working on the case. “We are trying to identify the accused,” he said. The officer added that if the accused were professional criminals, the bike used by them would have been stolen in all probability.
In most such cases, criminals use stolen vehicles to commit the crime.
Meanwhile, Gurugram police have deployed its rapid action force at different locations to make arrests if they are able to identify the accused from the footage.
Pooja’s family has so far not given any name who they suspect of murdering their daughter. The cops have also ruled out carjacking.
“The investigation is in progress and we are hoping to crack the case as soon as we get any substantial clue,” the ACP said.
On November 3, Pooja and her fiance Sagar Manchanda had gone out for dinner in Sector 31. They had then headed for a drive to Sector 40, where Sagar had taken her to show a flat he had recently bought. While returning, three persons had stopped their car, asked them to roll down the windows and shot at Pooja from outside. A guard posted at the site where Sagar had purportedly taken Pooja to see a flat had claimed to have heard a shot.
