6% less noise on Dussehra in Punjab, says PPCB

PATIALA: This Dussehra, people in Punjab did not pollute the environment as much as they did last year, said Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) officials, who recorded around 6% less noise pollution than last year.
According to a report by PPCB officials, fewer effigies of Ravana were burnt during the festival season whereas in some areas, no huge effigies were burnt. Officials said last year, Dussehra was celebrated in the beginning of October, while this year, it was celebrated in the last week of October.
Last year, PPCB recorded noise level at 84.0 dB (A) before burning of the Ravana effigies, 103.1 dB (A) during the burning of Ravana effigies and 83.64 dB (A) after burning of the effigies in Punjab. This year, the pollution board recorded 84.2 dB (A) before burning, 96.7 dB (A) during burning and 83.94 dB (A) after burning.
Noise pollution this year was recorded as 90.65 dB (A) in Barnala and Sangrur, 102 dB (A) in Amritsar, 96.1 dB (A) in Fatehgarh Sahib, 98.92 dB (A) in Mohali and 96.1 dB (A) in Mandi Gobindgarh during burning of effigies.
Last year, Dussehra was celebrated in the beginning of October when only a few stubble-burning cases were reported in the state.
