Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu reviewed the progress of works related to the upgrade of existing sports facilities in the city, during a meeting held at the MC Zone D office here today.
The meeting was attended by MC Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal and former mayor Apinder Singh Grewal. MC councillor Mamta Ashu was among others who attended the meeting.
Projects on anvil
MC councillor Mamta Ashu said on the directions of Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, it had already been decided to upgrade all existing sports facilities in the city. She said the projects include laying of a new athletics synthetic track at Guru Nanak Stadium, indoor swimming pool, upgrade of the Shastri Hall, construction of a new table tennis court, upgrade and repair of an AstroTurf and a velodrome (cycling track) at the PAU, besides construction of a sports park on 32 acres in Jainpur village of Ludhiana.
Sandhu said soon, the two open basketball courts at the Ludhiana Basketball Academy would be made indoor. He said the DPR in this regard had already been prepared and the work was expected to start soon.

She said former Mayor Apinder Singh Grewal, representatives of all sports organisations, prominent city players/ athletes, senior citizens and sports lovers had been roped in to ensure that the best sports facilities were provided to residents.
