No change in norms of post-matric scholarship for SC, ST students- Naveen

Bhubaneswar, Nov 08 (UNI) There will be no change in the norms of the Post-Matric scholarship for the SC and ST students in Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said.

The SC/ST would get their scholarship as per the prevailing rate.

Mr Patnaik directed the ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Department to put the resolution on this matter on hold and immediately return the file to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) for a detailed review.

The ST and SC department in a notification on November 3 last had drastically slashed the Post matric scholarship.

Odisha Pradesh Youth Congress (OPYC) President Smruti Ranjan Lenka at a press conference here yesterday alleged that the ST/ SC department in its order had reduced the scholarship of B Tech, M Tech, MBA and MCA students to Rs 25,000 from earlier Rs 60,000, 66,000, 65,000, Rs 40,000 respectively.

The department also had slashed the scholarship amount of many other disciplines, he said.

Dr Lenka had threatened the Congress would hit the streets and oppose both the state and central ministers if the government did not rescind the SC/ST department order and provided the post-matric scholarship to the students.
