Soumitra on minimal ventilator support, antibiotics stopped

Kolkata, Nov 07 (UNI) Legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee is on minimal ventilator support.
"More or less it's status quo. Neurological functions are around 10 on the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score. Neither improving nor deteriorating. Lung functions are good. He is still on minimal ventilator support. Inverse Ratio Ventilation (IRV) protection is required. Liver functions are more or less fine. Coagulation function has improved,'' said Dr Arindam Kar of Belle Vue Clinic.
''His haemoglobin is stable now. Platelets are more than a lakh. All are improving. Infectivity is much better, his total counts and biomarkers are approaching towards normalcy. He didn't have any fever for the last 48 hours, all the cultures are shown negative so we have stopped antibiotics from today itself. His kidney functions have taken a toll due to the volume loss, some of the antibiotics which were not kidney-friendly. He is being put on alternate day dialysis. Urine output still maintaining but we have to get rid of the extra fluid and to improve renal function, acidosis,'' he added.
Medical boards and family members have discussed a lot.
"Regarding long term care management, we have decided on plasmapheresis and tracheostomy, which have been accepted by the family members. But our nephrologist and haematologist are discussing more whether the plasmapheresis and tracheostomy would be feasible and safe for him and we will decide on this on Monday. Tracheostomy will be also done most likely on Monday provided coagulation function, platelet counts and all things remain stable in coming 24 to 36 hours", added Dr Kar.
