Police recovers kidnapped girl, arrests accused in Kulgam

Srinagar, Nov 8 (UNI) Police on Sunday recovered a kidnapped girl and arrested the accused in south Kashmir district of Kulgam.

A police spokesperson said on November 4, Police Station Kulgam received a complaint stating that a girl has been kidnapped by one Aejaz Ahmad Rather, resident of Gundbal Mohammadpora.

“Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation was initiated,” he said.

During the course of investigation, he said a special team was constituted. “The special team, acting on specific leads was able to recover the girl and arrest the kidnapper,” he said, adding the accused has been shifted to Police Station Kulgam, where he remains in custody.

“After fulfilling all medico-legal formalities, the girl has been handed over to her legal heirs. Investigation into the matter is in progress,” he said.

“Swift action by police against anti-social elements has been appreciated by the locals. Community members are requested to cooperate with police in curbing social crimes in their neighbourhood. They can share information pertaining to social crimes with police. We reassure the community members that our efforts in curbing social crimes will continue,” he added.
