Ludhiana, November 7

One of the major proposals to be tabled during the MC House meeting to be held on November 10 at Nehru Rose Garden is regarding the implementation of the new water and sewer tariff in the city.

As per the proposal, an exemption for domestic water supply connection will be given to only single storey residential property up to 50 sq yards. But monthly water and sewer tariff will be fixed for up to 50 sq yards (multi-storeyed) and 50 to 125 sq yards residential properties. Besides, new water and sewer tariff will also be fixed for properties above 125 sq yards as per the proposal. The final decision on the proposal will be taken during the meeting.

A proposal related to implementation of new water and sewer tariff, installation of water meters and to levy water supply and sewer charges also on properties up to 125 sq yards was kept pending during the House meeting on December 31, 2019. A number of councillors had raised objections against the proposal for levying water and sewer charges on properties up to 125 sq yds. Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu had then ordered to form a committee. The committee had then taken the decision and sent the report to the government.

Proposal for action against illegal advertisements

A proposal will also be presented before the House regarding action against illegal advertisement, hoardings, banners and other illegal source of advertisments.

It is also learned that a discussion will be conducted on the 24x7 canal-based water supply to city areas. Besides, a proposal regarding cleaning of Buddha Nullah and its beautification will also be presented. A proposal to fill essential vacant posts will also be presented during the meeting.

Opposition councillors may also raise issues such as failed road samples and overflowing sewers during the meeting. Notably, only one House meeting was organised this year in March when the proposed annual Budget for the financial year 2020-21 was presented.
