Tamil Nadu Covid-19 recovery rate close to 96%; active cases at 18,966

CHENNAI: Eight months after Tamil Nadu recorded its first case of Covid-19, 25 people died and 2,341 people were tested positive for the viral infection across the Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
Since March 7, the state has reported 7,41,488 cases of Covid-19 and the cumulative death toll touched 11,324. At the end of the day, the state discharged 2,352 people and there were 18,966 active cases of the viral infection. The recovery rate was close to 96% across the state.
The four districts in the Chennai region together reported 937 fresh cases and 14 deaths. This includes 603 cases and six deaths in Chennai, which continues to remain the most affected district of the state. After Chennai the highest number of fresh cases were in Coimbatore (213), Tiruvallur (137), Tiruppur (114), Chengalpet (112), Erode (108) and Salem (106) . All other districts reported cases below 100. Cases were the lowest in Theni (10), Perambalur (7) and Tenkasi (6). At least 79,328 people were taken up for RT-PCR tests in the past 24 hours.
Active cases were the highest in Chennai with 5,931, followed by Salem with 1,197, Tirupur with 1,037 and Tiruvallur with 1,012. Coimbatore had 1,000 active cases on Saturday. The lowest number of patients still under treatment was in Perambalur (44). Ariyalur
(60), Tenkasi (62), Theni (62), Ramanathapuram (72) and Virudhunagar (89) had cases below 100.
Of the 25 deaths reported in the past 24 hours, three people had no comorbidities. Twenty three of the 37 districts reported zero deaths and 10 other districts reported one death each.
Kancheepuram and Vellore reported two deaths each, Chengalpet reported five and Chennai logged six deaths.
