London, November 6
The police said on Friday that 104 persons had been arrested for holding large anti-lockdown protests in London. Covid restrictions have been imposed in the UK for the second time.
As soon as people started gathering, the Metropolitan Police directed them to go home. The arrests were made when people failed to comply with directions.
“A crowd of people chose to ignore the new regulations, to behave irresponsibly and meet in a dangerous manner. More than 100 of them have now been arrested and will have to face action,” said Commander Jane Connors, leading the Met Police operation in central London.
“We are eight months into this pandemic and frankly, there can be no excuse for people to dangerously breach regulations that are in place to prevent further spread of Covid… I would continue to urge people across the city to stay safe and stick to the regulations,” she said.
Proesters, including those masked reflecting the “Million Mask March”, could be seen walking and chanting “freedom” and “no more lockdown”. The anti-establishment Million Mask March is associated with the “hacktivist” group Anonymous.— PTI
Aspirin to be tested as potential Covid drug
Painkiller aspirin will be evaluated as a possible treatment for Covid-19 in one of Britain's biggest trials, which will assess whether it might reduce the risk of blood clots in people with the disease. The scientists behind the trial, which is looking into a range of potential treatments for Covid-19, said it would include the drug, which is commonly used as a blood thinner. Reuters
Kids, adults produce different antibodies
New York: Children and adults produce different types and amounts of antibodies in response to the novel coronavirus infection, according to a study that suggests the course of the infection and immune response is distinct in children, and most of them easily clear the virus from their bodies. “Our study provides an in-depth examination of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in kids, revealing a stark contrast with adults,” said Donna Farber, an immunologist at Columbia University in the US.
