AMBALA: The Northern railway competent authority has accorded approval for the opening of goods shed at Ghaggar station in Mohali district of Punjab, over Ambala division for the inward and outward traffic of bagged consignment on an experimental basis for a period of six months with effect from November 6, 2020, to May 5, 2021, told the officials on Saturday.
Ambala division senior divisional commercial manager (freight services) Vivek Sharma said that the division has achieved another milestone with the opening of Ghaggar goods shed for the handling of goods and parcel traffic.
Ambala divisional railway manager (DRM) Gurinder Mohan Singh apprised that due to the indefatigable efforts, the proposal for opening of Ghaggar siding was accepted by headquarter authorities. Ghaggar goods siding was notified for the handling of inward and outward, goods and parcel traffic on November 6.
“With the opening of goods shed of Ghaggar station, number of industrial units and logistic companies located in nearby cities of Zirakpur and Dera Bassi will be benefited. Parcel van/motor car carrier composite (VPU) special trains for carrying parcel traffic in bulk can also run from Ghaggar station making convenient for the producers and traders of general merchandise. It will also be helpful for the industrial units of Mohali and Chandigarh to dispatch their consignments from Ghaggar station in case there is congestion of traffic at Chandigarh goods shed”, added DRM Singh.
